Winter Weather Update: Extreme cold & light snow will linger the next five days

It’s certainly busy in the weather world this weekend as the coldest air in years arrives to eastern Colorado alongside several chances for light snow. The weather models have largely come into agreement regarding what will transpire in the coming days and thus our forecast confidence is growing. We discuss just how cold it will get, the timing on those snow chances and give our preliminary snowfall forecast for the region. Let’s take a look.

This week in Colorado weather: February 8, 2021

As of Monday morning, the Arctic airmass has spilled into the Front Range, but it won’t be staying for long! Boulder and Denver will be in and out of the frigid air much of the week ahead as the Arctic front wobbles back and forth. As such, some days will be more pleasant than others. While still somewhat uncertain, we are expecting the coldest air in years to inundate the region late in the week into the upcoming weekend alongside a chance of snow. ⦁❸⦁ Even with decent lift and a potent jet core overhead, downslope looks to be too much to overcome northwest of Denver with this system

La Niña Continues: No relief in sight for the ongoing extreme drought in Colorado

This week’s snow event, while certainly welcomed, is not nearly enough not help the ongoing extreme drought across the entire state of Colorado. With a dry stretch shaping up through the weekend ahead, Boulder will most likely polish off January with its 7th consecutive month of below normal precipitation. We recap the recent “snowstorm”, discuss the current state of the drought, update you on the evolving La Niña, and provide our prediction for what lies ahead the rest of winter.
