The month of March was fairly dry and chilly most of the time, but we can’t forget the historic El Niño snowstorm which slammed the entire Front Range around the middle of the month. Snow totals of 1 to 2 feet occurred in Boulder and Denver with up to 5 feet fell in the nearby Foothills. Here’s a quick and colorful graphical recap of our weather during March and how it relates to climatology.

THIS WEEK IN COLORADO WEATHER: Upslope snow arrives late in the week! 💨☃️❄️
A late-week cold front which will usher in colder temperatures, upslope flow & likely produce widespread accumulating snow for most of the Front Range –> https://t.co/yQCfxjm5CN #COwx #Boulder #Denver pic.twitter.com/4QaDVfV3b1

🌀 Impressive mesoscale rotation complete with widespread heavy snow across far eastern Colorado this morning! Up to 10" has already fallen with hours to go. Unfortunately, the more snow they get out there, the less we get in the #Denver area… #COWx pic.twitter.com/ltNZVFLlo3

❄️📊 Snow totals are in! The meatier first part of the storm Thursday was nerfed by heavy snow (a foot!) in far eastern Colorado. Second part of the storm brought widespread light snow during the day Friday, but it had a hard time sticking: https://t.co/RuvpGuzrbr #COWx #Boulder pic.twitter.com/I4bfDaD3a1

This Week in Colorado Weather: All eyes are on a potentially historic winter storm taking shape for the Front Range ☃️🎉⚠️
Still lots of uncertainty, but here's our latest thoughts on how a slow-moving, winter storm will impact our area –> https://t.co/665Re1MapO #COwx #Denver pic.twitter.com/juaXzBITRI

Long-term cold temperature timing trends don't show many changes in the last 125 years for #Boulder🥶
🧊Coldest temperature of winter is variable, usually Dec – mid Feb
🧊First frost usually in October, but sometimes September
🧊Last frost is still late April or early May#COWx pic.twitter.com/6H1uKAtYZm— BoulderCAST Weather 🏔️❄️ (@BoulderCAST) March 11, 2024

📊 Here's our latest snowfall probabilities. Not much change compared to 24 hours ago, which is good news for snow-lovers! Despite a few concerns, confidence is increasing for double digit snow totals across much of the area, with 1-3 feet in the Foothills #COWx #denver #Boulder pic.twitter.com/ZTb60tjOIT

❄️SNOW POLL TIME! ☃️
How much snow do YOU think Boulder will receive from the impending winter storm system arriving late Wednesday & continuing through Friday?
FYI: 30.0"+ would be a new single storm record for the city! #COwx #Boulder #Colorado #COwx #Denver #Boulderwx

We adjusted the storm's timeline a tad later based on latest guidance. Full change-over from t-storms/rain to wet snow is expected between 7PM-11PM, with all snow thereafter continuing into Friday AM. Extreme impacts inbound in/near the Foothills, just significant elsewhere #COwx pic.twitter.com/yrBOOsTtCK

Numerous models continue to increase QPF from our storm in these final hours, opposite to the trend of the last few event. Almost no support for less than 2" of liquid in #Boulder now, some as high as 5". Of course, the Euro HAS to be the one still bringing up the rear… #COWx pic.twitter.com/BXNs4U10wf

❄️Wednesday Winter Storm Update ⚠️
Well, we're bumping up expected snowfall amounts in most areas by a few inches. The overall forecast remains largely unchanged: a prolonged period of heavy snowfall & treacherous travel are on the way –> https://t.co/xm3WQP6ftK #COwx #Boulder pic.twitter.com/AcVJQoVX87

Thursday 11:30am. A nice lull in the snow right now but it won't last long… The next batch of moderate to heavy snow will be moving in within the next 30-90 minutes or most from the northeast! It'll be around well into this evening #cowx pic.twitter.com/u98s0PTeMG

📈 As of 7:00AM, the official snow total in Boulder was 8.9". We probably got 1-2" since then and have another 6-11" to go. Storm total likely to land between 15 and 22".
📉 Shockingly, the official total so far for Denver is 0.0". Yes no snow stuck at DIA yet.#COwx #Boulder
— BoulderCAST Weather 🏔️❄️ (@BoulderCAST) March 14, 2024
Seeing some complaints that the snow forecast was too hyped & roads are actually fine. While the main roads are looking okay, that's in large part because of the forecast, not in spite of it. More crews called in to plow more often, less drivers needlessly smashing it down #COwx

📡2:45PM Radar: LOTS of Gulf of Mexico moisture continues to get slung westward into the Front Range. Moderate snowfall will continue through at least 3AM, with better actual accumulation this evening/overnight. Current temp 33°F in #Boulder & elsewhere #COwx pic.twitter.com/jTA3jv6Sts

21 hours of continuous snowfall and counting in #Boulder! Up to 14.5" with another 5-9" to go! Yes we still have a decent chance to crack the 20" mark on this storm! #COWx

1) NE upslope doesn't last long, gone around midnight
2) Much colder air coming in from Wyoming tonight, snow will become fluffier
3) NNW downslope nips snow north of Boulder after 12AM
4) Blizzard likely along I-70 to KS! #COWx pic.twitter.com/KVKf6acRnq— BoulderCAST Weather 🏔️❄️ (@BoulderCAST) March 25, 2024
Snowfall totals across the Front Range ranged from 1" (Greeley) to 11" (Genesee). Officially 6.1" of snow fell in #Boulder and 3.2" in #Denver.
