Winter Weather Update: Snowflakes return to the Front Range on Wednesday, but the bullseye is on the Foothills

A wintry storm system will impact Colorado Wednesday morning into Thursday morning, but it’s not bringing much cold air to the party! This will lead to only minor impacts across the Denver Metro area as a mix of rain and snow is expected for most of the event, with a trend towards all snow at the tail-end as precipitation will be wrapping up. Greater travel impacts are expected in the Foothills where temperatures will be colder and up to 8 inches of snow may accumulate. We discuss the timing of the rain and snow, the expected snowfall totals for everyone and when travel may be most impacted.

Winter Weather Update: Our first snow of the season will be much more than the usual dusting this time!

It’s been over six months now, but winter weather is finally set to return to the Front Range this weekend as the coldest air of the season shows up alongside several inches of fluffy snow. An interesting weather setup will have a stalled jet streak directly over Colorado Saturday evening seeding a lengthy period of scattered heavy snow bands. Snowfall amounts, while still somewhat uncertain, have trended upward and some of us could see up to a foot of snow this weekend! This Week in Colorado Weather: March 20, 2023

This week in Colorado weather will feature favorable upslope conditions across the Mountains into at least midweek, but mostly dry conditions and seasonal temperatures for the Plains. The deep moisture will bring hefty snow totals to the High Country over the coming days, with powder measured by the foot in many areas. Little if any precipitation will occur across the Denver Metro area, though Wednesday will bring our best chance with a stronger trough of low pressure moving through. The week ends with drier zonal flow but there are some signs of a possible snow event developing for the weekend.

This Week in Colorado Weather: March 13, 2023

This week’s weather will feature a resurgence of winter across the Front Range, but in typical fashion it will be immediately preceded by a few days of spring-like conditions including potentially our first 70-degree day of 2023. The bottom is set to fall out Wednesday night with rain changing to wet snow across the region.
