Storm Recap: Historic and dangerous (for livestock) snow fell in Colorado on Tuesday, but not in the Front Range

Moderate to heavy snow arrived to the Denver Metro area right on-schedule Tuesday making for a messy morning commute. While most of us received our allocated amount of snowfall, localized ridiculous totals were observed in far eastern Colorado on Tuesday — up to 30″ in some cases near the Kansas border. This region was expecting much less snow than this which created a dangerous situation for livestock and on the roadways. We review the storm totals and discuss why this historic snow fell in that region.

This week in Colorado weather: January 24, 2022

The week begins quiet on Monday, but things turn notably snowy and much colder by Tuesday. We’re tracking a winter storm that will bring accumulating snow to all of eastern Colorado Tuesday morning into the afternoon hours with a dicey morning commute all but guaranteed. We discuss the timing of the storm and expected snowfall amounts across the region. Further out, another round of snow could accompany a weak system on Thursday, but that is still evolving. Winter Weather Update: Cooler with a wave of upslope snow to close out the week (Updated)

After the recent freezing drizzle event that glazed the entire area in ice, our attention quickly turns to an approaching winter storm that will bring a round of snow to the area on Friday. We discuss the setup, timing and expected snowfall amounts in what will be an all-snow upslope event for mainly the western Denver Metro area.

This week in Colorado weather: January 17, 2022

The week starts out above average with 60-degree temperatures possible over the Denver Metro area on Monday. That all comes to a halt late Tuesday as two strong cold fronts move into the region ushering in a colder and more unsettled weather pattern for mid to late-week.
