Thursday Update: A beneficial, though likely damaging winter storm is confirmed for the entire Front Range (Updated)

Models have stuck to their guns overnight and our confidence has increased that a widespread, significant winter storm will impact the Front Range Friday into Saturday. This system could produce more than 2″ of much-needed moisture across the area. Unfortunately, a good chunk of this will be falling in the form of heavy wet snow which will have damaging impacts across the area from downed trees and power outages. Sub-freezing temperatures are also expected to impact sensitive plants. Here’s the latest on the storm, including how much snow to expect, how cold it will get, and a few ideas to prepare for this late-season taste of winter!

Wednesday Update: A potentially devastating late-season winter storm is looming — here’s the latest

Just when it seemed we had the shortest snow season and earliest last snowfall records in the bag, Mother Nature is about to throw a late-spring wrench into the forecast! A winter storm is heading for Colorado and it will bring snow to everyone Friday into Saturday even across the lower elevations in Boulder and Denver. While the Foothills communities should brace for a major damaging snow event, some crucial aspects of the forecast remain fuzzy which has allowed only low confidence in the exact snow amounts for the immediate Metro area. This week in Colorado weather: May 9, 2022

Elevated fire conditions will be in place nearly every day this week, though the most dangerous conditions will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with strong winds and warm/dry conditions across the Front Range. Above normal temperatures will be around throughout the week, with potential record highs shaping up for Wednesday. The week remains dry overall, although there will be some light Mountain snow at the beginning and latter part of the week — certainly not enough to please the skiers. April 2022 Graphical Weather Review: The driest and least snowy April in Boulder’s history

As wet as it was early in 2022, things really dried out fast over the course of March and April. Several grass fires were reported across the state on twenty or more Red Flag days that occurred during the month. When it was all said and done, Boulder had just one day of measurable rainfall in April and no measurable snow at all! This week in Colorado weather: May 2, 2022

Much needed precipitation is the main story for the week across Colorado! There are two systems of note that will bring beneficial rainfall and Mountain snow to the region, with the second system a little less certain than the first already ongoing on this Monday. With the precipitation chances, temperatures will largely be below seasonal normals, coolest on Monday, with even a few snowflakes possibly mixing in at times. This week in Colorado weather: April 18, 2022

The last month has been very dry across the Denver Metro area with the progress we’ve made this year towards eradicating the drought starting to reverse. Wind and high fire danger have been rampant of late and that isn’t going to change this week, though it won’t be nearly as bad as recent times. Temperatures will be up and down through the days ahead, but prospects for any precipitation remain woefully slim.
