Storm Recap: An exclamation point on a decisively cold & snowy month of November

We concluded the already very snowy and cold month of November with even more snow and cold on Tuesday. A brief period of moderate to heavy snow led to a slick morning commute in many areas, with some of the coldest air of the season filtering in as the snow cleared out. Storm Recap: Long-duration light snowfall led to nearly a foot of fluff along the base of the Foothills

Snow began earlier that expected Thursday morning making for three consecutive tricky commutes across the Denver Metro area. Light snow continued almost continuously for 24 hours leading to a slow but steady accumulation reaching several inches of snow across the Front Range, with up to a foot in some upslope-favored locations. Let’s take a look at the snow totals and the beautiful weather that lies ahead for the weekend.

Storm Recap: Boulder officially recorded its first accumulating snow of the season on Thursday….but it was only 0.1″

Much-needed rain and snow fell across the Front Range on Thursday as a quick-moving storm raced across the state. Though temperatures remained entirely above freezing in Boulder and Denver, some embedded heavier pockets of snow allowed for minor accumulations to occur on the grass in spots, including at the official climate station in Boulder. This made for an interesting but somewhat underwhelming first snowfall of the season for many. We recap the storm, take a look at the snowfall totals across the region, announce the plethora of winners to our 2022 First Snowfall Contest, and look ahead to our next chance of snow.

August 2022 Graphical Weather Review: A continuation of what has been a hot & somewhat dry summer

August 2022 followed the trend of the rest of the summer as another hot and somewhat dry month across the Front Range. August began very warm, cooled off around the middle of the month as monsoon moisture surged, and finally once again turned toasty by months’ end. July 2022 Graphical Weather Review: Many rounds of raindrops, but not much rain!

July 2022, a month that falls in the heart of monsoon season, ended up fairly hot and dry across much of the Front Range as a ridge of high pressure dominated our weather. Raindrops were a frequent occurrence, at least in Boulder, but ultimately they didn’t add up to much. A wave of thunderstorms towards the latter part of the month provided soaking rains to much of the Denver area, “saving”many locations from worsening drought for the time being. Boulder surprisingly notched its first 100-degree day in over two years on Tuesday! Or did it?

On a day which should have been slightly cooler than recent times on paper, Boulder officially reached 100 degrees Tuesday afternoon. However, other reliable weather sensors around the city came in several degrees cooler and more in-line with forecasts. We take a look at the temperatures measured around the area and weight on what will ultimately go down in the books as a record high temperature and the city’s first triple-digit reading in over two years.
