These weekly forecast posts are published EVERY Monday morning and provide a general overview of the atmosphere and the weather conditions for the week ahead in Front Range Colorado. We give you a heads-up on the major short-term weather features and anything looming down the road.
The week will begin with near-record high temperatures continuing across the Front Range. However, we will see a gradual downward trend in temperatures thanks to increased clouds and scattered storms over the state. We are also tracking a few cold fronts on the horizon that look to finally breakdown that persistent ridge leading to much cooler temperatures next week.
The never-ending heat is back for another encore performance this week. Slight chances for rain will exist, but overall we’re in for another mainly dry week with scorching temperatures. Mid-level winds will usher in more smoke across the area as well. Read on for all the details.
After a welcomed cooler start to the week, it will be all about the 90’s through Friday as hot and dry west-southwest flow entrenches across the entire Four Corners region, including Colorado. We are watching a slight resurgence of moisture for the latter part of the week related to Hurricane Elida, but even still, storm coverage is expected to remain isolated at best. The monsoon is all but history at this point.
Even with the monsoon on possibly permanent pause, storm chances will continue through the week with large hail and damaging winds a concern as well. We need the rain as portions of the Metro area are now experiencing severe drought. Late in the week, winds shift and drier air will work into Colorado from the southwest leading to reduced storm chances. We discuss this and more in our weekly outlook.
We continue the cool, monsoonal stretch with 80’s for the majority of the week. We are watching a weak system to affect northeast Colorado through Thursday, bringing our best chance of storms on Tuesday. Will the 90’s rear their ugly head for the first weekend in August? It’s been a brutally hot and dry month of July thus far. The monsoon is yet to materialize for the southwestern United States, but it won’t stop rain chances from increasing this week across the Front Range due to an influx of subtropical and even tropical moisture. Temperatures will remain rather warm, but not quite as hot as the last few weeks. Let’s take a “big picture” look at the week ahead.
A welcomed reprieve from the heat commences on Tuesday, but only lasts but a moment in time, after which temperatures rise back to the low and middle 90’s by the end of the week. We’ll also break down the chances of storms each day.
