A strong storm system in the Pacific Northwest will intensify as it moves into the upper Great Plains and into Minnesota by midweek. This system will create periods of gusty winds, fire weather concerns, and frequent temperature swings for the Front Range, as well as heavy snowfall for the High Country. The same system may bring a few rain/snow showers Tuesday into Wednesday to the Denver Metro area, but these won’t amount to much. Read on for more details.

A strong low pressure system passing to our north will wrap in a potent jet stream to northern Colorado in the coming days. This will result in a period of Mountain snow, but to the east several days of strong downslope winds and high fire danger for the lower elevations. We start the week with near-record warmth with some locations reaching the lower 80s on Monday. That warmth vacates quickly come Tuesday with a strong storm system and associated cold front moving through. Rain and some thunder will change to wet snow Tuesday night. A strong cut-off low pressure system will slowly pass by south of Colorado early in the week leading to below normal temperatures, gusty winds and at times light snow for the area. Little to no accumulation is expected across the lower elevations though. Things turn sunny and warmer Wednesday and beyond, with the upcoming weekend looking particularly stunning. After a mild and gorgeous weekend, the week ahead continues on the same note, at least to start! Colder temperatures and a good threat for rain/snow arrives late Wednesday into Thursday. Uncertainty remains on where snowfall will be greatest, but likely favors the higher elevations of the Front Range due to the marginal temperatures. Sunshine and warmth return for the upcoming weekend.

We will enjoy a little bit of sunshine Monday and Tuesday, but yet another Arctic blast will arrive Wednesday to keep things cold and/or snowy for the rest of week. If last week was considered the winter deep freeze, this week shall be the spring thaw! The main story for the majority of the week ahead will be above normal high temperatures and dry conditions under a strong mid-level ridge of high pressure. A storm system moving onshore along the West Coast on Thursday will return our area to a more unsettled pattern late Friday into the weekend, along with a likelihood of snow and colder air filtering in. The upcoming week will feature a drastic change in our weather as a late-season Arctic airmass surges in on Monday and remains locked across the Front Range through at least Friday. Alongside the bitter cold temperatures will be a handful of light snow chances from President’s Day Monday through Wednesday night that will bring a wide range in potential snowfall totals.
