Eleven consecutive warm days kicked off the month but were quickly followed by a prolonged period of cold and snow on the heels of several Arctic outbreaks. Late-season Arctic surge pushes Boulder over 100 inches of snow for the season, another chance of snow Wednesday (Updated)

A late-season Arctic cold front ushered in bitter cold temperatures on Monday morning and eventually a dumping of fluffy snow for the entire Front Range Monday evening. We review the snow totals and record cold temperatures. We also give our preliminary snowfall forecast for the next system in the pipeline set to arrive during the day Wednesday.

La Niña Continues: No relief in sight for the ongoing extreme drought in Colorado

This week’s snow event, while certainly welcomed, is not nearly enough not help the ongoing extreme drought across the entire state of Colorado. With a dry stretch shaping up through the weekend ahead, Boulder will most likely polish off January with its 7th consecutive month of below normal precipitation.
