August 2023 ended up warmer and wetter than normal in Boulder — an uncommon pair of outcomes indeed. The summer monsoon failed to produce consistent precipitation across the state throughout the whole month (woefully dry in the middle), but most areas made out alright with drought still thankfully absent from eastern Colorado. The month had 14 90-degree days bringing the total count to 30 days year-to-date. Elsewhere, a DVD-sized hailstone that fell in far eastern Colorado was confirmed to be a new state record. Hereβs a quick and colorful graphical recap of our weather during August and how it relates to climatology.

β οΈ Heads up! The thunderstorm risk comes earlier today across the Metro area, roughly 1-4PM. Some storms may be severe, but things explode mainly out east. Keep an eye to the sky early this afternoon! Chance of rain isn't all that high today though. Many of us miss out #COWx pic.twitter.com/R95FrUXhZe

Still a good deal of uncertainty in how this rainfall event plays out through Saturday morning. Most of us will probably land between 0.75" and 1.5" of rainfall, with locally higher (and lower) totals. Won't be surprised to see 2-4" in hardest hit locations, though #COwx pic.twitter.com/aioFEQQVfP
