June 2023 dropped more than 5″ of rain on Boulder for the second straight month, concluding as the 4th wettest June since the late 1800s. Temperatures ended up nearly 4°F below normal as well, including a monthly minimum temperature of 42°F which occurred in the middle of the afternoon on June 12th as several inches of small hailstones lay melting on the ground. Other Front Range headlines in June included minimal Canadian wildfire smoke, the Highlands Ranch EF1 tornado, and the pummeling of giant hail at Red Rocks. Here’s a quick and colorful graphical recap of our weather during June and how it relates to climatology.

Heavy rain and melting hail brought air temperatures down to 44° in #Boulder earlier this afternoon, the coldest reading on June 12th since 2009 (which was a clear sky morning low, not a midday temperature!) #COwx pic.twitter.com/tXpm5HdYlL

The entire Metro area has been "upgraded" one risk category by the SPC just now. Denver's second Enhanced Risk day of 2023 is taking shape 3PM to Midnight. Expecting to see lots of hail (golf balls to tennis balls possible) and a few tornadoes! #COWx #Hail #Colorado #Tornado pic.twitter.com/QJ4kdOEsCq

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for expected fireworks with golf ball+ sized hail and isolated tornadoes the greatest risks. Main threat in Boulder is 3-9PM. In Denver it's 5PM-1AM. Protect your cars and gardens if possible! #COWX pic.twitter.com/jMEaDwEyge

Tonight was the scariest night of my life. It started pelting people with hail at Red Rocks and my sister and I luckily found shelter under a sign. I am bleeding and have huge bumps on my head from the hail. Hoping everyone made it out safely. pic.twitter.com/jong1SBuYd

🔥Today is the 11 year anniversary of the Flagstaff Fire in #Boulder. It was sparked by a monsoon lightning strike amidst a terrible statewide drought. In the end, the wildfire burned about 350 acres and forever changed the landscape of Bear and South Boulder Peaks! #COWx pic.twitter.com/Cl69x1bZPs

🔥💨 Under Red Flag conditions, the #SpringCreekFire in western Colorado has exploded this afternoon. The high-altitude brown smoke plume is racing towards the #Boulder–#Denver Metro area and should be visible in the western and northwestern sky before sunset! #COwx #COonFire pic.twitter.com/T8e5W9kBkm

There's a huge difference in fuel-moisture west to east across Colorado right now. The soggy spring east of the Continental Divide was not mirrored in the Western Slope. The drier last few months are contributing to the #SpringCreekFire and continued elevated fire danger. #COwx pic.twitter.com/fSGuxE26nH

🥵 Well, we made it! 90° on the dot was the official high in #Boulder on Tuesday, the first time in the 90s in more than nine months. This is tied for the 23rd latest first 90 degree day (data back to 1893) and is the latest timing since 2014! #COWx pic.twitter.com/FMAynW9bnC

*Parts* of #Denver upgraded to Enhanced Risk by the SPC for the 3rd time in 2023. Big hail and tornadoes possible anywhere in our area from 2-7PM, the threat shifts further east through the evening.
