October 2022 Graphical Weather Review: Not as bone-dry as last October, but still dry & warm overall

October 2022 was yet another warm and dry month for the Front Range as drought expanded across the state and our precipitation deficit for 2022 grew further. Denver and Boulder both saw later than normal first snowfalls and first freezes. There were no major heatwaves or cold snaps to speak of during the month either. September 2022 Graphical Weather Review: Record late-season heat, somewhat dry, plenty of displaced smoke, and no snow

September 2022 followed the trend of the rest of the summer as another hot and somewhat dry month across the Front Range. The month entertained one of the longest and most intense heatwaves for so late in the season. Rainfall was below normal and there was no snow during the month. Smoke from out of state wildfires was also a theme at times. Here’s a quick and colorful graphical recap of our weather during September and how it relates to climatology.

This week in Colorado weather: January 31, 2022

The final day of what has been a snowy January will be quiet across the Front Range, but that all changes for the start of February as a significant winter storm takes aim on the region. Upslope favored areas like Boulder could very well see close to a foot of snow this week while parts of Denver will see much less. Some of the coldest air of the season will be moving in as well. We give our current thoughts on the incoming storm and our preliminary snowfall expectations. Quiet weather returns late in the week and for the upcoming weekend.

Boulder Colorado’s 2021 weather told through 14 colorful graphics!

2021 was a diverse year in Colorado weather which isn’t out of the ordinary. However, 2021 definitely upped the ante a bit. The year began quite cold and wet but had a prolonged warm and parched finish. We saw the widespread drought get abolished at one point and then promptly get reinstated. Months of poor air quality from distant (and some close) wildfires characterized the summer season — not the monsoon. And of course, everything culminated in a devastating and fiery ending just before the New Year. We made 14 unique graphics that together characterize only a small slice 2021’s weather in Boulder. This week in Colorado weather: October 25, 2021

An impressive atmospheric river event currently hammering California moves onshore this week leading to gusty winds as well as rain and snow for Colorado Tuesday through Wednesday. Prior to that, warmth will abound to start the week with perhaps one final 80-degree day in the works. A quieter patten takes shape for the late week period and upcoming weekend which should make for excellent holiday activities.

September 2021 Weather Review: A dry month where scorching heat actually overshadowed the smoke

September 2021 will go down as one of the overall hottest on record for the Front Range, and not much more. Other weather highlights during the month included a multi-day late-summer heatwave, continued smoky skies from the California wildfires, the first snow for many Mountain locations, dismal precipitation for much of the state, and one measly day that could pass for autumn. Summer 2021: Crunching the numbers of yet another hot & mostly dry summer season for Colorado

Meteorological summer begins on June 1st and runs through August 31st. With that end date now having come and gone, the official numbers are in for Summer 2021!
