The weather this week in the Front Range will have two contrasting primary themes. A heat dome cooking beneath a large ridge of high pressure off to our southwest will push temperatures towards record highs Monday and Tuesday. However, the rest of the week will exhibit a cooling trend with increasing chances for late-day thunderstorms as several backdoor cold fronts team up with increasing monsoonal moisture. Yes, the famed monsoon season is about to commence! In typical fashion though, there will also be a risk of some severe weather mixed in. Get ready for summer! A largely hot and dry forecast will be in the cards this week as an anomalous ridge of high pressure develops to our south pumping in air from the Deserts. There will be a few chances for isolated storms, with the best chance coming towards week’s end as a frontal system tries to make its way into the area from the north. After a hot and dry Monday, the rest of the week ahead will see cooler and stormy conditions unfold across the Front Range, the the focus centered on another damaging hail outbreak on the Fourth of July holiday. Much cooler weather arrives Wednesday with at least one cold-related historical record up for grabs. The Southwest monsoon remains delayed with little hope of it arriving anytime soon. This last full week of June will feature hot temperatures to start followed by a cooldown late-week along with increasing chances of showers and storms. Ridging will largely be in place early on, but an approaching low pressure system and cold front will return us to more unsettled conditions by week’s end. Whether you like it or not, Front Range Colorado has finally turned a corner on the cool and soggy weather lingering across the area the last few months — just in time for the first day of summer on Wednesday! While the week ahead will offer a few chances for rain, and even some severe storms at times, the overall trend heading into the end of June will be towards drier and hotter weather. We’ve got a stormy start to the week with continued cool temperatures and a risk of hail and flash flooding from slow-moving thunderstorms. Our rain chances will lessen toward the tail end of the week as a mid-level system exits and leaves behind a ridge pattern. On the wildfire front, smoke from fires in western Canada should stay to our north keeping air quality good here in the Front Range. Read on for more details.

June has begun exceptionally wet across the Front Range and that trend will live on this week with continued cool and rainy weather expected throughout the extended forecast. Wednesday and Thursday look to be the wettest days in the pipeline, but every single day this week will carry at least the risk of scattered storms alongside a minor risk of localized flooding. The month of May will end with several days of highs in the 80s. This warmth will be felt largely into midweek as ridging extends into the Front Range area. Although the chance of showers and storms will exist early in the week, the better chances crops up from Wednesday onward as a closed low pressure lifts into the region.
