Hot, Cold & Snowy: A look back at the record-shattering wild week of “summer” weather

What an absolutely incredible week of weather we experienced across the Front Range. From sizzling record heat, to explosive wildfire growth with towering pyrocumulus clouds blocking out the sun and ash raining from the sky, to unprecedented early season snowfall, to eventual record cold. This week had it ALL! Let’s step through this crazy week in weather and look at just how many long-standing records we broke over the last several days.

This week in Colorado weather: August 24, 2020

The week will begin with near-record high temperatures continuing across the Front Range. However, we will see a gradual downward trend in temperatures thanks to increased clouds and scattered storms over the state. We are also tracking a few cold fronts on the horizon that look to finally breakdown that persistent ridge leading to much cooler temperatures next week.

Colorado Monsoon Update: Southern portion of the state in severe drought, the monsoon may be delayed

Have you noticed the drop in visibility across the Front Range over the last few weeks? This haziness is actually smoke from a handful of wildfires burning hundreds of miles to our southwest. This may only be a taste of things to come later this summer as parts of southern Colorado and the Intermountain West have recently shifted into the penultimate drought classification. We provide an update on the hydrological situation and explain why we believe the monsoon will arrive late to Colorado this summer.
