Winter is in full swing, but don’t worry, BoulderCAST has you covered. We have several important announcements related to the ongoing snowy season.

Our forecast zone for snow has expanded

Thanks to the persistence of countless readers who resided near or outside the edge of our snowfall forecast maps over the last several years, we are happy to announce that we are increasing the area covered by for our snowfall forecasts. For Winter 2018-19, we are expanding from the RED zone below to the BLUE one.  While this expansion may seem subtle, the new forecast zone is nearly DOUBLE the size of the old one. This will hopefully better suit those with interests in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park, Greeley, Loveland, DIA, and the entire southern Denver Metro area.

We are winter weather experts. Our snow forecasts are right 85% of the time

Over the last three winters, our team has correctly predicted snowfall amounts 85% of the time.  This is our average accuracy across 21 Front Range cities during more than 45 snowstorms in the last three years. Browse through any of the cities below to see specific accuracy at each location. These graphics cover every single snowstorm since October 2015.

PowderCAST is back with improvements

Though you likely took a break from skiing this summer, the ski slopes were never far from the minds of our team. In the off-season, we improved several aspects of PowderCAST which will make for even better weather forecasts for your favorite Colorado ski resorts. Using training data from the last three winters, we have significantly increased the overall accuracy of temperature and wind speed forecasts for most resorts. We also implemented an all-new method for deriving snow-to-liquid ratio (SLR).

With PowderCAST, you’ll find a complete weather forecast every three hours for the next six days. We cover the lodge, mid-mountain, and high point of all 22 major resorts in Colorado. There are also helpful graphics to quickly find the best day and mountain to cash-in on that sweet, sweet powder. If you’re a skier or snowboarder, we urge you to check out PowderCAST this winter!

SummitCAST will remain active through the winter

While our ski forecast products get turned off during the summer months, our hiking forecasts remain active year-round . Even better, this is the first winter season in which our lower elevation hikes will be available. We know most of you won’t be taking the ole’ ice pick up Longs Peak in January, but maybe hiking Mt. Sanitas or snow-shoeing Brainard Lake is more your style? SummitCAST is your ticket to the perfect forecast for any of our 120+ included mountain destinations this winter.
