Arctic Blast Saturday Update: Waking up to a thin blanket of snow and temperatures in the negative teens, but the worst still lies ahead!

The Arctic air has arrived in the Front Range and it’s here to stay for several more days. We take a quick look at the overnight snow totals, the record low temperatures set already Saturday morning, and update you on the forecast for the rest of the weekend. More accumulating snow and even colder temperatures are on the way!

Arctic air is inbound! Plan now for a prolonged period of dangerous cold in the Front Range starting Friday evening!

The most significant Arctic outbreak for the Front Range since 2022 is brewing! The initial cold front will blast through Friday early evening ushering in sub-zero wind chills which will persist all the way into at least Tuesday morning. While the extreme cold is all but certain at this point, the snowfall potential is a bit trickier of a forecast as there will be three separate chances for snow mixed into the polar plunge. However, the Mountains will be getting absolutely showered in powder. Let’s take a look at bitter cold and snowy forecast heading into the MLK holiday weekend.

This Week in Colorado Weather: January 8, 2024

Breezy conditions and chilly temperatures will kick off the week behind a departing winter storm which brought a thin blanket of snow to the Metro area last night. Highs below freezing on Monday will trend slightly warmer in the coming days, but with gusty winds remaining. The tail-end of the week will turn more active with a few chances at light snowfall. There are also signs in the extended that an Arctic airmass will ooze into the region during the upcoming weekend turning things even colder for us. Read on for more details

Winter Weather Update: First southern-track storm (of several) turns things much colder on Thursday, but snowflakes will be hard to come by

The weather pattern is shifting as we speak across the West and with several southern-track storms set to impact our area in the coming week or so. The first arrives on Thursday, but unfortunately it is coming in a bit too far south with things largely bypassing the Denver Metro area. Still there will be some amount of wintry weather to end the week. Let’s take a look at the latest forecast for not only the storm knocking on the door, but the next one gearing up for late in the weekend.

Winter Weather Update: Forecast uncertainty still abounds heading into the holiday weekend, but things are starting to come into focus

We’ve got a few more mild days ahead to end the work week, but as promised, winter will return for the holiday weekend in what is shaping up to be a challenging forecast indeed. We are finally starting to see better agreement in the various weather models, but things are still far from certain. Our weather will begin to trend downhill on Saturday with cooler temperatures and a chance of rain showers. Saturday night rain will change to snow with snow accumulation likely for all heading into Christmas Eve. Exact snowfall amounts and the timing of everything are still being worked out, but here’s our latest thoughts on the approaching holiday winter storm.
