This week in Colorado weather: June 27, 2022

The heat returns this week, but thankfully so do the storm chances. Highs start out near normal but reach potential record highs by midweek. Our storm chances increase Wednesday through Friday as better moisture spreads into the state, some of which will be tied to Tropical Storm Celia off the Baja coastline. Read on for all the details.

September 2021 Weather Review: A dry month where scorching heat actually overshadowed the smoke

September 2021 will go down as one of the overall hottest on record for the Front Range, and not much more. Other weather highlights during the month included a multi-day late-summer heatwave, continued smoky skies from the California wildfires, the first snow for many Mountain locations, dismal precipitation for much of the state, and one measly day that could pass for autumn. This week in Colorado weather: October 4, 2021

Despite an active pattern across the country, this week will be yet another warm and dry one for the Front Range as Mother Nature continues to focus attention on other parts of the nation with the most impactful weather. Highs throughout the week will be above average with only miniscule chances of rain in the Denver area. However, things will become more unsettled for the upcoming weekend with early signs of substantially colder weather taking hold next week and potential freezing temperatures.

After enduring extreme late summer heat of late, we thankfully start off this week with closer to average temperatures and a threat of thunderstorms, some being severe into Tuesday evening. Drier and warmer conditions take over Wednesday through Friday, although the upcoming weekend could see a resurgence of moisture and unsettled weather.

⦁❶⦁ High pressure located in southwestern Colorado continues to dominate the western half of the country

⦁❷⦁ Record highs are almost guaranteed for our area Thursday and Friday in the middle to upper 90’s

⦁❸⦁ Thick smoke will remain across the area through Friday evening but could lighten up on Saturday

⦁❹⦁ A weak cold front will bring our temperatures down a little this weekend with isolated late-day rain showers

Happy Labor Day! This week will feature wildfire smoke building back into the region causing visibilities to deteriorate, especially Monday through Wednesday. With the exception of Tuesday, most of the week will see above average temperatures, even potentially record-breaking ones late in the week. All is dry, though unsettled weather increases over the upcoming weekend into early next week.

August 2021 Weather Review: A month headlined by poor air quality and relentless smoke

August 2021 across the Front Range was defined by its poor air quality and tenacious smoky skies which were mostly caused by out-of-state wildfires. Other weather highlights during the month included a rotating thunderstorm which prompted tornado sirens, lots of red smoky sunsets, a sprinkle of summertime snow in the Mountains, and the landfall of Category 4 Hurricane Ida sixteen years to the day after Hurricane Katrina. The focus for this week’s weather discussion lies in the tropics. Category 4 Hurricane Ida made landfall into Louisiana on Sunday, but more importantly for Colorado, the remnants of once Hurricane Nora in the Pacific will reach our neck of the woods later this week.
