This Week in Colorado Weather: May 8, 2023

After a few warm and quiet days, big changes arrive midweek as a southern-track storm system targets the Front Range. Initially we’ll be in the warm and unstable sector with the first severe weather outbreak of 2023 for Colorado taking shape on Wednesday. By late week, the main storm system will slowly move across the state inducing a prolonged period of upslope and soggy conditions across our area. What type of severe weather should we expect on Wednesday and how much rain (and snow) will fall this week? Let’s take a look.

This Week in Colorado Weather: May 1, 2023

A large Omega Block pattern will be in place through much of the week ahead with ridging over the central Plains and troughs on either side — one along the West Coast and another over the Northeast. Above normal temperatures with highs in the 70s are expected for the Front Range under this setup, but it will come with the threat of afternoon showers and storms more typical of summertime. This Week in Colorado Weather: April 24, 2023

The last week of April will undoubtedly be an interesting one weatherwise across the Front Range as a potent spring storm bears down on Colorado in the coming days. While we still have some concerns about the storm’s track and exactly how low snow levels will come, this will be a classic upslope event with impacts ranging from thunderstorms to soaking rain to heavy wet snow for our area. Furthermore, there will also be another smaller but colder storm late in the week with accumulating snow chances. The Front Range forecast this week sure is busy! Let’s get into it.

This Week in Colorado Weather: April 17, 2023

The week starts off rather warm under increasingly strong southwest flow aloft. This will culminate in elevated fire danger on Tuesday with dry and gusty winds in place. The mid to late week period will turn unsettled and much colder with a series of low pressure systems and cold fronts lining up that will bring at least two chances for Front Range rain and snow during the period. This Week in Colorado Weather: April 10, 2023

This first major heatwave of 2023 will unfold this week across the Front Range as a broad ridge of high pressure produces bountiful sunshine and an influx of warm air from the southwest to Colorado. Multiple days of record high temperatures are expected as most of us soar into the 80s. However, late week a big cooldown is taking shape with rain/snow likely returning on Friday. This Week in Colorado Weather: April 3, 2023

Following another elevated fire danger day on Monday, a late-season snowstorm will trek from the Rockies into the Dakotas in the coming days. While the brunt of this massive winter storm will be felt in the Mountains and well to our north in Wyoming, there are enough ingredients coming together to bring light snow to the Front Range during this time as well. Another chance of snow may develop on Wednesday. Unseasonably cold temperatures will transition back above normal by week’s end with a warm and dry outlook shaping up for much of the extended.

This Week in Colorado Weather: March 27, 2023

After widespread snow and unseasonably cold weather on Monday, things quiet down for the midweek period with a nice warm-up headed to the Front Range. A secondary storm system will reach the area Thursday into Friday with Mountain snowfall ramping up again along with another chance of snow in the Denver area to close out the month of March. This Week in Colorado Weather: March 20, 2023

This week in Colorado weather will feature favorable upslope conditions across the Mountains into at least midweek, but mostly dry conditions and seasonal temperatures for the Plains. The deep moisture will bring hefty snow totals to the High Country over the coming days, with powder measured by the foot in many areas. Little if any precipitation will occur across the Denver Metro area, though Wednesday will bring our best chance with a stronger trough of low pressure moving through. The week ends with drier zonal flow but there are some signs of a possible snow event developing for the weekend.
