Over the course of my graduate studies at CU Boulder, my atmospheric research has taken me to one of the coldest and harshest places on Earth, central Greenland. I made the trip north four times over the course of just three years, studying cloud formation, snowfall, and weather patterns, among other things. Traveling to Greenland is something few people will ever get the chance (or possibly want) to do. Thus, I would like to share my experiences with you all by retelling my many Arctic adventures.
We sure hope you enjoyed the recent warmth and sunshine! On Monday, we alerted you to the likelihood that we would see our next round of snow at the end of the week. With the models now trending a little bit snowier over the course of the last 24 hours, we provide a update on when the snow will start and how much to expect.
We hope you all had a great holiday to close out the year. Our weather has remained cold, but at least fairly sunny over the last week or so. For the first full week of 2016, the main story will be the arrival of frequent but weak weather systems along the California coastline, each a little more potent than the prior. By the time they arrive in eastern Colorado, they will stripped of most of their moisture and energy, but we may be able to squeeze a few flakes out, even on the Plains. Read on for the details.
After a snowy holiday weekend, 2015 will go out like a baby sheep, with dry but cold weather prevailing through the week. Read on to find out how cold it will be New Year’s Eve and when we can expect our next chance of snow.
We hope you had a cozy, joyous. and relaxing holiday with your family and friends. Mother Nature delivered the best gift of all, a White Christmas, our second in as many years. We quickly recap storm totals across the region.
With winter now officially under way (you didn’t miss the solstice did you?), the weather turns cooler and snowier right in time for the holiday. We provide an updated outlook through the extended weekend. Will any of us see a white Christmas this year? Read on to find out!
Our most recent snow storm reinforced the fact that weather forecasts can change in the blink of an eye, which can ultimately have major impacts across the Front Range. Looking back, we definitely needed a better outlet to communicate more timely information to our readers as models shifted in the final hours leading up to the event. We detail a new site feature that will be rolling out alongside our next major winter storm, the BoulderCAST Live Blog.
