This week in weather: November 21, 2016

A nice warm-up occurred over the weekend following our first snow late last week. The forecast for Thanksgiving week will feature a series of low pressure systems tracking from west to east across Colorado, leading to a moderate dumping of snowfall in the High Country…great news for all you skiers! Final forecast: Historic warmth today, snow tomorrow

We’re currently about one week away from setting the record for our latest first snowfall in a season. It’s likely a lost cause, though. Amidst this warm October, where’s the snow?

Do you know what today is? If you’re thinking October 20th, while correct, you’re missing the more important point. Today is the climatological median date of Boulder’s first measurable snowfall! This means that exactly half of the time, the season’s first snow occurs before this date, while half of the time it occurs after.  While we understand you’re disappointed to know that 2016 is officially in the bottom half of our climatology percentiles, fear not.
