It has been a dismal start to the snow season for the mountains and ski resorts. However, there is good news on the horizon as a strong low pressure system moves in tomorrow with several locales in the High Country seeing snowfall. How much? Will it be enough for a powder day? Do you know what today is? If you’re thinking October 20th, while correct, you’re missing the more important point. Today is the climatological median date of Boulder’s first measurable snowfall! This means that exactly half of the time, the season’s first snow occurs before this date, while half of the time it occurs after. While we understand you’re disappointed to know that 2016 is officially in the bottom half of our climatology percentiles, fear not. The odds of our first snow remaining at-large is decreasing every day! We discuss where the snow has been this year, and what lies ahead as we close out the month of October.

October is here and with that comes snow-making across the Colorado ski resorts! With overnight temperatures now dropping below freezing, Copper, Loveland, and A-Basin are making the white stuff as we speak. BouldeCAST is happy to inform you that PowderCASTs will be returning very soon! In these discussions, we provide in-depth forecasts for powder at several of the ski resorts in Colorado, each and every week through the winter season, with special storm updates as needed. We will get the forecasts out to you well in advance, allowing you to plan your ski days accordingly.
At this stage, weather does not look to get active for snow in the mountains until at least mid to late next week, but we will definitely keep you posted. Stay tuned skiers!
