We’re excited to announce that the first batch of lower elevation hikes have just been added to SummitCAST! Read on for details on which hikes are included and where you can access the new additions.
Since launching back in July of 2017, our cutting-edge mountain forecast products, known as SummitCAST, expanded to contain 94 different peaks, including all of Colorado’s 14ers as well as a medley of nearby 13ers. However, we know that many of you like to enjoy Mother Nature at more reasonable altitudes. In fact, a recent poll confirmed this! Lower elevation hiking forecasts came in a strong second place for the most wanted BoulderCAST feature!
As of today, we’re happy to announce that twenty-six new Colorado hiking destinations have been added to SummitCAST:
Many of the hikes are easily doable year-round. A histogram showing the maximum elevations of all new locations is shown below.
Better yet…most (but not all) of the hikes are within a two-hour drive of Boulder and Denver. The map below outlines the location of each new hiking destination.
All of our SummitCAST forecasts include predictions for the following parameters, given every 3 hours for the next 6 days:
- Temperature
- Sky Cover
- Wind Speed
- Wind Direction
- Chance of Precipitation
- Precipitation Type
- Rainfall Amount
- Snowfall Accumulation
- Lightning Hazard Level
The newly-added hikes can be found within the green SummitCAST drop-down from any page on the site. We may end-up adding more lower elevation hikes down the line. Please reach out if you have a request. We’ll do our best to make it happen!
If you hike frequently, sooner or later you will get caught in lightning storm above treeline, blindsided by a blizzard, or walloped by terrain-forced 90 mph winds. As avid hikers ourselves, we know that a better forecast makes for safer and more enjoyable hiking. SummitCAST is the finely-crafted fusion of our expertise in mountain meteorology and our passion for the outdoors. We truly hope you enjoy it!
SummitCAST already provides bleeding-edge forecasts for mountain weather, and it’s getting better every day. Using predictive analytics (machine learning) from actual mountain weather observatories, SummitCAST is becoming more accurate with each and every passing day. The first two days of our mountain forecasts are always free. However, a BoulderCAST Premium subscription is required for our complete six-day forecasts. As a special promotion to celebrate the new hiking locations, use the promo code SUMMIT15 to save 15% on a yearly membership to BoulderCAST Premium through Monday May 28, 2018.
If you have any comments, questions, or weather to report from a hike, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We’d love to hear how SummitCAST has served you well (or not)!
