Front Range weather will be quiet for the most part this week — a welcomed change considering how crazy things were around here recently. Temperatures will stayed near to slightly above normal in the days ahead. The only chance of precipitation will be on Tuesday alongside a shortwave trough and a cold front. However, this system will mostly hit the Mountains. We are also watching a potential late-weekend system into early next week that could bring a return chance for snow for the area. These weekly forecast posts are published EVERY Monday morning and provide a general overview of the atmosphere and the weather conditions for the week ahead in Front Range Colorado. We give you a heads-up on the major short-term weather features and anything looming down the road.
The first two storm systems of the season capable of producing snow across the lower elevations mostly missed the mark, with only a small portion of the Denver Metro area reporting snow so far this season. Neither Boulder or Denver have officially received any snowfall since April. That will definitely change this week, perhaps as early as Sunday night as a light round of rain changing to snow is expected. Furthermore, a complicated, unsettled weather pattern will unfold the rest of the week in Colorado keeping our temperatures well below normal with almost daily chances for more rain and snow. We’re fairly confident everyone will see additional light accumulating snow Tuesday night into Wednesday, with a potential for a more impactful storm late in the week into the weekend, including possible blizzard conditions. We truly have a lot to cover in this week’s outlook, so let’s dive in!
Front Range weather will be tame to start the week with above normal temperatures for our Monday but under extensive wave clouds. However, all eyes are on a developing storm system moving onshore Monday night in California. As the system tracks across the Four Corners and into our area, it will bring the Mountain snowfall, as well as the chance of rain ending as wet snow late Tuesday night into early Wednesday in the Denver Metro area. While the midweek storm will offer a decent chance at our first flakes of the season, amounts are expected to be rather light. We break it all down for you, including the probabilities and our preliminary snowfall map. The first hard freeze of the season is also taking shape for Wednesday night.

As we transition deeper into autumn season, Colorado weather continues to keep us all on our toes. This past weekend, a slow-moving storm system that was expected to bring widespread light precipitation to the Denver Metro area ended up being a tad underwhelming, with the bulk of the moisture staying to our south. While Boulder and Denver received only minimal rainfall, areas of southern Colorado and New Mexico experienced heavy rainfall which led to deadly flash flooding. Looking ahead, this week promises relatively quiet weather for the Front Range, with just a brief cool down scheduled for late week. We’re also tracking an interesting storm in the pipeline for next week which could bring sub-freezing temperatures and potentially some snow to the area just in time for Halloween.
Temperatures across the Front Range will remain unseasonably warm for much of the week ahead pushing into the 70s and 80s. Precipitation will once again be vacant from the forecast early this week with no major weather systems to speak of. However, that all changes as we head into Friday and the weekend as our team is tracking a strong storm system that is taking aim on Colorado. Rather large uncertainty still remains in the exact outcome for us, but we discuss the odds of seeing our first snow and/or much-needed rainfall.
The Front Range will unfortunately see a continuation of unseasonably warm and bone dry weather this week. With a strong ridge of high pressure parked over the region, temperatures will remain summer-like in the lower 80s for the most part. While a couple of weak cold fronts may bring slight temperature drops, there will not be any precipitation. Wildfire smoke from neighboring states will intermittently affect our air quality. We also look ahead to a pattern shift next week which should bring welcomed changes. Read on for all the details.
This week’s weather will once again be excruciatingly quiet in the Front Range. It’ll be a roller-coaster ride in temperatures from the 70s to around 90 degrees, but no rain is in the forecast as high pressure ridging keeps things totally dry. Two dry cold fronts will pass through the area — one on Monday and another later in the week, but this won’t prevent us from nearing record heat on Wednesday. We also discuss the potential for tropical development in the days ahead and take a look at the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
The Front Range experienced its first significant rainfall in five months, with some areas receiving up to an inch of rain over the weekend. The start of the work week will be relatively cool. However, a strong ridge pattern known as an omega block will bring warm and dry conditions from Wednesday onwards, with temperatures rising into the 80s and potentially reaching record highs by Thursday.
