It’s been a brutally hot and dry month of July thus far. The monsoon is yet to materialize for the southwestern United States, but it won’t stop rain chances from increasing this week across the Front Range due to an influx of subtropical and even tropical moisture. Temperatures will remain rather warm, but not quite as hot as the last few weeks. Let’s take a “big picture” look at the week ahead.

These weekly forecast posts are published EVERY Monday morning and provide a general overview of the atmosphere and the weather conditions for the week ahead in Front Range Colorado. We give you a heads-up on the major short-term weather features and anything looming down the road.
A welcomed reprieve from the heat commences on Tuesday, but only lasts but a moment in time, after which temperatures rise back to the low and middle 90’s by the end of the week. We’ll also break down the chances of storms each day.
Brace for the heat wave! A strong ridge of high pressure will dominate our weather pattern for the next seven to ten days. Temperatures through the week will push well into the 90’s each and every day with perhaps a few triple digit readings later this week as well.
A deep area of low pressure to our northwest brings in a cold front Tuesday, lowering highs into the from the 90’s into the 70’s. Outside of a few meager storm chances, most of the week will be rather dry for the area. However, we are tracking an increase in moisture to reach the area late in the week as temperatures climb back into the 90’s.
With moist northwest flow present across Colorado for the next few days, a cooler start to the week with popcorn storms is expected. Late in the week, we are watching for a slow-moving, more organized Pacific weather system to reach our area. This could bring cooler and more unsettled conditions just in time for the weekend. The heat continues this week with lower to middle 90’s through Wednesday under warm southwest flow. This pattern will also favor the threat of wildfires across Colorado. Our chance of storms does not really materialize until the latter part of the week, accompanied by a cold front followed by northwest flow. Read on more to find out the full week ahead details.
A welcomed cool-down will transpire early in the week as a strong Pacific trough moves across the Rockies. However, accompanying the cooler temperatures will be very strong winds Monday evening and night, as well as widespread rain and even some wet snow in the higher elevations. By mid-week, yet another ridge of high pressure will begin to take shape leading to a warming and drying trend for the Front Range.
The month of June starts out very warm with temperatures in the high 80’s to near 90 degrees each day. Along with the heat, there will be a persistent but minor threat of thunderstorms each day through the week. We also discuss the outlook for the month of June as a whole.
