It’s hard to believe that it has been five full-years since we began the BoulderCAST journey. We’ve come a long way since, transitioning from an idea envisioned by a few CU-Boulder grad students and alumni…to becoming a leader in Boulder and Denver weather that members of our community depend on today. While an anniversary is a great time to reflect on what we have accomplished already, we’re also looking ahead to the future.

Right on schedule, a series of heavy snow bands progressed across the Front Range Thursday morning producing the season’s first snow for everyone alongside record cold temperatures. We take a look at snow totals and the impressive temperature records from across the area. We also announce the winners of our 2019 First Snow Contest.
Thanks to everyone that entered our 2019 First Snow Contest. We briefly review the entries, which actually favor a later date than Boulder’s climatology would suggest. Contest prizes and recognition will be awarded in the days following our first dumping of snow, BIG or SMALL!

Are you eager for the first snow of the season? Have you already waxed your skis and purchased your Epic Pass? Our first big snow could be right around the corner! We provide a brief overview of Boulder’s first snowfall climatology, discuss the snowfall forecast for the next ten days, and then pose a question…“When will Boulder’s first measurable snow occur this year?” Submit your guess for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. Those who get closest to the date of our first snow win.
Though 2019 is only half over, it’s already been a very busy year for our team! In this post, we discuss some of the changes and new additions to BoulderCAST that have taken place so far this year.
As we move towards the tail-end of snow season here in Front Range Colorado, we can’t help but think this winter has been longer, colder, and snowier than years passed. We examine the data to confirm this and discuss the chance for more accumulating snow in the coming weeks.
