Northeast Colorado could desperately use some rainfall, as we have been parched for the better part of the last two months. Despite the remnants of Tropical Depression 16-E slated to move through the state, the week ahead won’t offer much chance at a reprieve. Read on for all the details.

After a sunny, dry, and at times, smoky weekend, which saw near record-breaking heat across the Plains, the week ahead will feel noticeably cooler. Late-season monsoon moisture will also invade our state once again, keeping the chance of rain in the forecast through the week.

After a gorgeous Sunday across the entire Boulder area, the heat returns as the ridge of high pressure rebuilds from the south. By midweek, a system approaches, bringing a chance of storms back into our forecast. The past week has also been quite hazy/smoky, most prominently on Saturday. When will the smoke clear? The weather across our region has been relatively uneventful over the course of the last month, with much of the West sitting beneath a broad, upper-level ridge and monsoon moisture hard to come by. That changes this week! The week ahead will showcase a, dare we say, (early) fall-like weather feature that will bring a big cool down and a good chance of rain (and possibly severe weather) to Boulder County. An update on Colorado’s paltry 2015 wildfire season

To suggest that the 2012 wildfire season in Colorado was utterly devastating would be an understatement. Nearly a quarter million acres were charred, more than 600 homes damaged, and at least 35,000 people were evacuated statewide. This year, the narrative is much different. We provide an update on the 2015 fire season so far and discuss the forecast heading forward.
