Born and raised in St. Louis, Andrew obtained a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Colorado in 2015. From 2015 to 2020, he worked remotely in Boulder as an atmospheric scientist with NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory in Miami. Andy is now a full-time meteorologist.
Boulder doesn’t have an archive of hourly data. However from the daily observations we can confirm this is a new record. Estimated previous records are as follows:
Oct 11-14, 1925: ~88 hours
Oct 28-31, 1991: ~70 hours
Oct 20-23, 1906: ~69 hours
Oct 29-31, 2002: ~63 hours (this streak continued thru Nov 2, total time ~109 hours, but not all in October)
For what it’s worth, using the some approach with daily observations only for this year would have yielded an approximation of 102 hours.
The week starts out breezy and chilly, but warms up the next few days before a snow event comes together late Wednesday into Thursday. We give our early thoughts on the snow chance and discuss the pleasant end to the week thereafter.
